jane's addiction +cynical donkey

5.4.08 site has jane's addiction?

yeah, we have jane's addiction. we're gonna fill in the gaps of jane's addiction that need to be filled. and yes, there are gaps in the other sites. we'll see where we fit in, if at all. i don't have a lot of time to do this kinda stuff, so it'll happen as it does happen. it's not like jane's addiction is on the fast track into it's next "reunion", so we are left with their current projects.

meanwhile, enjoy some other junk i've been posting. go try out the new "beer" ranks on the bored. leave yr internets behind a few days a week and enjoy the summer.

5.4.08 wasting time on useless stuff

somehow, i felt we fellow jane's addicion nerds could relate to this one.

i post this only, because i know how much you dis-like them. i know, emo bands suck. blanket statements are cool though, huh?

meh.

4.25.08 Jane's Addiction return, aftermath and realization

the realization is that might be the last time you see those guys together. yeah, the hall of fame is a mere 4 years away, but what if they don't get inducted in the first years they are eligible. and even if they do the hall of fame, that's maybe two songs and we gotta wait 4 years or more for that.
so maybe this it? or maybe it's not... with a little extra pushing from the fans, we have to see this line up on tour at the least.

so, here's what you do. eric avery has already said he wants to tour his solo record "help wanted" (go buy it). what better way to promote this record than in an opening slot for legendary, some say "godlike" band. yeah, Jane's Addiction. Jane's Addiction can do a 3 or 4 week tour, with Eric Avery in the opening slot, and possibly one band in between that to give eric some recovery time.

i dont' mean to be unappreciative fan, i was able to see the original line up in all it's glory, but we need this tour. We have been wasting away here on message boards, fighting with one another about who to blame for the original break up, fighting about why eric won't return, fighting over which after jane's addiction band was the best or closest to jane's addiction, we fight about who is the biggest fan (obviously it's me), fighting about the jane's addiction wives fighting, fighting about whether the iphone was a success, fighting about britney vagina pictures, fighting about imus being fired, fighting about obama's friends vs. bush's friends, and constantly fighting about who was the best eric avery replacement.

Eric, save us that fight. it's obvious to everyone, we all agree that there is no replacement for eric avery. And we're not saying that in the shallow respectful, but we don't mean it, kinda way. we mean it, with every fiber of our being.

We greatly respect you for not using Jane's Addiction for a "money grab" and we will gladly accept $20 ticket sales for all shows on this propposed tour, to help you save face.

It is time to give it back to the fans who have been here supporting what has been essentially a dead band.

If not, then thanks just the same. the other night was amazing and i wish i could've been there.

4.24.08 Jane's Addiction has returned as if it were sept. 27th 1991

Eric Avery is back. Dave is back on his original side of the stage. Eric is back in his rightful spot. perkins smile is back. eric is walking in circles, stomping with the rythm. perry's voice is not way above the music, but buried just the right amount. the jane's addiction amount. stephen perkin's head is wobbling all over the place. the bass sounds deep and wonderful. THE BRAHMS BASS IS BACK. perry is smiling at eric, and he is smiling back. i think dave's guitar even cut out, just like it was '89 all over again. perry's voice sounds perfect, not strained at all. all the old school perry farrell dance moves are back.

eric said it right, when you have all the right parts, the machine just works. Jane's Addiction is one machine that needs all four parts to run like the God Machine it is.

4.22.08 Eric Avery - Help Wanted reviewed

belly of an insect wow, it sounds like polar bear. but once the drumming really comes in, not so much. it doesn't sound like eric avery even. it almost sounds like the red hot chili peppers when anthony sings in a lower register. this is a good song.

beside the fire ah, now this sounds like polar bear. almost like i've heard these samples before. boy the live drumming really seems to wake these songs out of polar bear land. this seems like a polar bear leftover.

all remote and no control now this sounds good. this one has some of the same techno sounds found on any polar bear song, but it still sounds new. it sounds clean and industrial at the same time. still a good song.

revolution i really like the music on this one. great layers, but not too much. this song reminds me of the deconstruction song 'son'. it's not as bare as that one, but it's got that same even vibe. the lyrics follow a certain theme, you might recognize in the john lennon song 'God' or 'Imagine'. i don't completely understand what eric is trying to say with the main lyric "all wars in the world were won today, and in one big bomb, all the good men on earth went away.' and the fact that he says 'if you didn't hear me the first time, what i said was...' doesn't help any. it feels like self righteous liberalism and i consider myself a liberal. i really thought eric more of a realist, so i'm sure i'm missing something here.

maybe a duet w/shirley manson. this is a good song. the chorus is perfectly crafted to compliment the lyrics. the synthesizers kinda kill it for me though. it gives the verses a phil collins feel. the alien space ship noises at the end seem more fitting. one of the best songs on here though. shirley adds so much to this song, with her vocals at the end.

unexploded while shuffling through my playlists, i had to check the artist on this one. i didn't even realize it was eric. it's got a very catch, almost pop guitar riff leading into the verses. one of my favorites.

walking through walls (the man who can fly pt. 5) sounds like roger waters' pink floyd years right away. really great. i like this direction. give me more of this. this sounds new and inventive. oh, yeah this feels like a part of a concept of songs, along with the title. it's like eric took this song out of a collection that flowed.

philo beddoe the music is promising. the rythmn of the song is great. the melody is flat though. sounds like he's just reciting lyrics, rather than singing. the music's great though, really great.

chicken bone (the man who can fly pt. 2) the old school drum machine beat could have been an intro to any "timberland/timberlake joint", but once all the instruments come in it's clear it's eric avery. eric is singing a storyline, like the old country and western songs about some backwoods tragedy. eric's story sounds like a film nuar of some sort.

porchlight sounds like polar bear leftovers. or an unfinished track. i like the title though. this song sucks.

song in the silence (the man who can fly pt. 7) ah, here we go. it sounds like a continuation, a little down the road of 'walk through walls' or (pt. 5) as it is labled. good things going on. sounds like a radiohead track sorta. what a great feel he has going here. more horns eric, more horns in yr songs.

suns gone we all heard this one and normally i'd get attached to the original version, which ever i hear first. this time i just love this finished version. the lyrics seem focused and complete. one great song. even though it's not labeled as part of the "the man who can fly" series, this has that same feel as pt. 5 and pt. 7.

aight, so overall a pretty good solo effort. i like that these songs weren't written with an album in mind, but at the same time i'd like to see a focus on the album as a whole. be critical enough to drop the filler and write some worthy songs instead. give us the whole concept instead of broken pieces of what could've been.

eric suffers the same limit of leonard cohen and lou reed. all three great song writers, great artisits. all three with songs that sound so much better when sung by someone with a larger vocal range. check jeff buckley's "hallelujah". this limit in vocal range can also lead to similar melodies throughout the catalog. eric seems to be aware of this and changes it up on the better songs.

eric would have to explain 90% of his lyrics to me. i catch great lines here and there, but over all it seems like jumbled together prose. lyrics from past bands seems more focused and direct and quite frankly more poetic.

so yeah, the better songs sound like a likely great, but unfinished, concept. i'll arrange these songs as i see fit and make my own partially pieced together concept album. here are my suggestions.

revolution
chicken bone
maybe
walk through walls
song in the silence
suns gone

now obviously i have to compare this one to the recent projects of his former band mates. where does it stand? well just slightly above them. eric obviously put more thought, more effort into these songs than either satellite party or the panic channel. his goals and audience for this album are completely different than satellite party and the panic channel were searching for with their major label backed slumps. is this better than polar bear or deconstruction? maybe. this is better than 'why something instead of nothing?' and there are songs here that are on par with deconstruction, but there are too many filler songs that kill the flow. so where does it stand in the ranking of albums? i've revised the listing below to include this one in it's appropriate place.

4.20.08 is this a jane's addiction site?

no, it's not. although i may put up the unique info i offered here concerning the band jane's addiction at some point. the future will be more wide open discussions and news. it may include jane's addiciton as i still love the band, just not being the admin of the one and only jane's addiciton forum. good luck to erik. i'm sure he will do a better job.

as for my years being the admin. it was fun at times and hell most of the time. being the bad guy, while offering up a place for the community to come was great. i did what i had to do, to keep the community flowing and together. i made mistakes along the way and some never got over it. i know some people felt they were wronged and i'm sure at least half were. i know for a fact, everyone ever banned felt it unjustly so. what to do really, but just try to keep things civil.

I"m glad some feel a new freedom without mean ol' sonny, it would seem even eric avery is feeling the community positivity. i hope the community continues and no one is ever banned unjustly.

if you feel froggy with some horrible comments you've been holding back until the day you weren't faced with a possible banning, well this be yr day sir. come and give it to me here or if allowed at yr new home. lord knows i got plenty of it while running the bored, surely i can take it now i'm no longer bound.

all of you in need, pile on, i knew the day was coming.

4.17.08 Dave Navarro interviews Eric Avery

This was taped, but just internet aired today. Dave blew that interview. I wanna hear the real conversation these two guys had before and after what we saw on ManiaTV. What did we find out? Eric Avery solo tour in the works, which clearly means Jane's Addiction tour not in the immediate mind of Mr. Avery. Enough with the "i don't wanna be worse than i was, when i was 20 bullshit" who isn't? If you really care about the Jane's Addiciton legacy, you'd tour with these guys and do one record, without label pressure. And this is why: the other three have managed to almost completely ruin the legacy Eric Avery is trying not to tarnish. The bar of post '91 Jane's Addiciton has slowly fallen lower and lower over the years. The return of Eric Avery would only bring the bar back to a nice respectable level that we fans can again brag about. People might even forget "wrong girl" with just one original line up, 3 week tour.

So, Eric Avery, if you wanna honor Jane's Addiction, tour with this band. Record the shows and release them all on CD or DVD even. Remind the fans and doubters why Jane's Addiciton is Godlike and/or Genius.

4.16.08 Will Eric Avery bring the Brahms bass out of retirement?

If i'm not mistaken, we haven't seen this bass since Eric Avery agreed to tour with Alanis Morrisette. Surely, he wouldn't consider any other bass for his rare performance with his baby, Jane's Addiction.

4.15.08 Eric Avery joins Jane's Addiction, again.

Eric Avery announced today he would rejoin his former bandmates to "honor" Jane's Addiction. It appears he was lured out of his self imposed time out by the "Godlike Genuis" award NME is dangling before the reunion tired group. If I had known, i just happen to have the same award right beside me. Now, if we only knew how many awards or "honors" it would take for Eric Avery to tour with his one and only godlike achievement, Jane's Addiction.

Eric Avery's blog, with his announcement.

4.10.08 Jane's Addiction to win NME Godlike Genius award

Some wonderfully empty award has brought out just the right excuse to reunite our favorite band. Perry, Dave, and Stephen are balls out ready. Which is a complete shock to me, considering the extremely popular post break up projects, Perry Farrell's Satellite Party and The Panic Channel. I would've never forseen such a future. Who's gonna play bass? Who cares?

3.25.08 Eric Avery's Help Wanted Leaked

this album is worth buying and downloading. so go do both or one at least. i could go on about how good or lack luster this alblum is, but i think the fact that this album ended up on a torrent site nearly 2 weeks before it was released says something. lets compare it to the panic channel and satellite party, both of which did not leak at all. so maybe they have better control of who gets copies or it could be something else.

yeah, i know, this isn't a jane's addiction site anymore.
